This Practice commenced in 1972 and has been accredited since 2000. This is, probably, the oldest GP clinic in Oakleigh.
The doctors in this practice have satisfied the training requirements of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. This means we have a commitment to general practice and to continuing medical education.

The Doctors:
Dr John Malios, MB.BS. (Monash 1968), FRACGP, MACLM.
Principal. Started the practice in 1972 and has been made a life member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He is a member of the Australian College of Legal Medicine. He is a frequent presenter to medical and legal training programmes and has a wide experience in all aspects of general practice. He is available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dr Lakshmie Kariyawasam, MB.BS. (Colombo1993), FRACGP.
Dr Kari has been practising as a medical practitioner since 1994, and started at this practice in 2003. She is actively involved in continuing education and has an interest in women’s health, paediatrics and geriatrics. She undertakes chronic disease Care Plans and Mental Health Care Plans. Dr Kari has a young family and is available for appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. LOTE: Sinhala/Sinhalese.
Dr Barry White, MB.BS. (Monash)
Dr White is a medical practitioner with many years of clinical experience. He is interested in Chronic Disease Management and Mental Health Management. At the moment Dr White works at our clinic on Saturdays.
Practice Nurse:
Sr Nicky Nicolaou, Registered Nurse Div 1, (1995) Nurse Immuniser
Nicky is an experienced clinical nurse who assists the doctors with clinical care including preparation of Care Plans and Health Assessments, and oversees the Recalls and Reminders system. She is also an Accredited Immunisation Provider and is available for childhood immunisations on Tuesdays. LOTE: Greek.

Ms Vicky Gomez, Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics, Bachelor of Science, Certificate in Paediatric Nutrition, Certificate of Sports Nutrition, Cert FODMAP.
Vicky has been working as a Dietician since 2000 working in the clinical and corporate setting. Her area of expertise includes nutrition support in infants and adults, heart disease, diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, sports nutrition, weight loss, paediatric weight management and intolerances. Receptionist team: Kerrie, Tayla. Pathology collector – Narges.
Consultations/Appointments:
Appointments are made by telephoning our office during business hours. Prolonged/extended consultations can be accommodated and need to be arranged with the receptionist. Home visits can be also be arranged in circumstances of severe illness. If you or a family member requires the use of an interpreter service, this can be organised at the time of making an appointment by informing the receptionist.
An appointment system is used which allows for unexpected and urgent problems. We are aware that your time is important and we do try to run on time.
However General Practice is full of unexpected emergencies and problems which may be more complicated than they first seem. We therefore hope you will understand that if we run late, it is because we are devoting as much effort to another patient’s problem as you would expect us to dedicate to yours. Young children, accidents and genuine emergencies are prioritised.
All after office hours calls are diverted to The Melbourne Medical Locum Service (Tel: 9429 5677) an Accredited deputising Locum Service, that attends for house visits.
Fees and Billing:
This practice is Bulk Billing to Medicare. Our GPs bulk bill to Medicare. No out of pocket fees.
Bulk billing is available for all Medicare Card holders.
Consultations covered by WorkSafe, TAC or Veteran’s Affairs, are usually charged directly to the relevant authority, after formal claims are accepted. There may be circumstances where the patient will be responsible for the fee and obtain re-imbursement directly themselves from the relevant authority.

After Hours Care:
This practice provides 24 hour access to care, through our telephone 9568 8932 which is diverted directly to The Melbourne Medical Locum Service (telephone: 9429 5677), outside office hours. Notices are displayed in the waiting room and externally at the front entrance.
The locum service is an Accredited service and provides electronic communication to the practice of any attendances and treatment that was provided.

Fees are payable for after hours care, excepting at public hospitals.
Telephoning the Doctor:
Requests to speak to the doctors are handled by reception staff, and generally a message is left for the doctor who will return the call after the consultation session. If there is a genuine emergency, the receptionist will inform the doctor immediately.
Results, Recalls and Reminders:
The doctor will advise at the time of consultation when to expect results of tests, and a follow up appointment is preferable for discussion of all results. The practice has a policy of sending reminder letters for preventive health care, and participates with the Victorian Cytology Registry (for Pap Smears) recall reminder system.
Infection control:
The practice uses single use/disposable medical supplies, and adheres to strict infection protocols.
Privacy:
The practice adheres to the principles and regulations of privacy for all information obtained. A copy of the privacy policy is available in the waiting room. Dr Malios is the practice’s Privacy Officer.
Complaints and Suggestions:
If you are not satisfied with our service, please contact us. We take complaints seriously and aim to resolve them quickly and fairly.
